Round Rock removals are usually easier than the equivalent job in central Austin, and the reason is boring: gates. A Teravista or Paloma Lake back yard has a double gate wide enough to drive the chipper through, so the wood goes from the tree to the machine in a few yards instead of being carried out to the street a round at a time. That shows up directly in the price.
Send a photo of the tree and the gate and we can usually price it the same day.

Usually no permit, but check anyway
Austin’s 19-inch rule does not apply in Round Rock. This city runs its own tree preservation ordinance through its development code, and the weight of it falls on development and subdivision rather than on a homeowner taking down a back yard tree. In practice a great many routine Round Rock removals need no city permit at all.
Large heritage-class trees are treated more seriously, and thresholds get amended over time, so we confirm the current position with the city for your address before quoting. Your HOA is more likely to have a say than the city is, particularly on front yard trees in Teravista, Forest Creek and Paloma Lake. More in the permit guide.
The Arizona ash problem
More than half the removals we do in Round Rock are Arizona ash, and it is not coincidence. They went into front yards across this city through the 1980s and 1990s because they throw shade within five years. They also live about forty years, and a great many of them are at the end of that now.
The failure pattern is consistent: the trunk hollows from the base, limbs go brittle, and then a straight-line wind takes the whole top out. If you have a big ash dropping limbs in ordinary weather, that is age rather than bad luck, and it is worth dealing with before spring storm season rather than during it.
Along Brushy Creek the picture is different: mature pecan and cedar elm on better ground, generally healthier, and more often needing trimming in Round Rock than removal.
How the job runs here

- We check the city position and tell you if an HOA approval is likely.
- Flat written price with the stump as its own line.
- Chipper into the back yard where the gate allows, canopy down in pieces, trunk in rounds.
- Haul-off, rake and blow. Stump grinding the same visit if booked.
Questions about removal in Round Rock
Do I need a permit to remove a tree in Round Rock?
Often not for a routine residential removal, because Round Rock’s ordinance is tied largely to development rather than homeowner maintenance, and Austin’s 19-inch rule stops at the city limit. Heritage-class trees are the exception. We confirm the current requirement with the city for your address before quoting.
How much does tree removal cost in Round Rock?
Between $450 and $2,200 for most Round Rock trees, a little under central Austin because subdivision access is so much better. A mature Arizona ash in a Forest Creek front yard typically lands at $900 to $1,400. Add $120 to $400 if you want the stump ground at the same visit.
How long does a removal take in Round Rock?
Most are half a day. A 40-foot ash in a Teravista front yard with the chipper on the driveway takes around three hours including cleanup. A large pecan along Brushy Creek with rigging over a fence can be a full day. Wide gates are the single biggest time saver here.
Will my HOA need to approve it?
Possibly, and it is separate from anything the city requires. Teravista, Paloma Lake and Forest Creek all have landscape provisions and some cover front yard trees specifically. Check your covenants before booking. We will supply a written condition report with photographs if your board wants documentation.
Do you take the wood away?
Yes, haul-off is included in every Round Rock removal price unless you ask otherwise. Plenty of people here want the trunk cut into 16-inch rounds for firewood, and that costs nothing extra. Say so when you book and we will stack it rather than load it.
