Tree Removal in Georgetown, TX

$500 to $2,400 in Georgetown, and a real permit process for heritage trees. Sun City, Wolf Ranch and the San Gabriel river corridor.

Georgetown is the one suburb where we tell people to sort the paperwork before they think about the price. The city runs a genuine tree preservation ordinance with a heritage category, removals of larger trees need approval, and mitigation is a normal condition of getting it.

None of that is a problem. It just means the timeline starts earlier than people expect. Send us a photo and the trunk measurement and we will tell you where you stand.

The permit comes first

Georgetown’s ordinance sits in its Unified Development Code and defines protected and heritage tree categories. Removing a heritage tree generally requires city approval whether you are developing the site or simply want it gone, which is a real difference from Round Rock or Cedar Park, where the rules bear mainly on development.

Mitigation means replacing the canopy you take, by planting replacement inches or paying into the city’s fund, and it is worth factoring into the budget before you commit. Take a tape measure round the trunk at chest height and send us the number with your photos. Thresholds are amended from time to time, so we confirm the current position with the city rather than quoting from memory. Full comparison in the permit guide.

Cutting first and asking later is expensive here. Georgetown enforces, and neighbours report. The measurement and the phone call cost nothing.

What tree removal costs in Georgetown

TreeGeorgetown price
Under 30 ft$500 – $850
30 – 60 ft, Sun City lot$1,000 – $1,800
Mature live oak or pecan$1,600 – $2,400
Large riverside pecan, crane$3,000 – $6,000
Stump ground at the same visit+$130 – $420
Mitigation costs, where a heritage removal is approved, sit on top of these.

Sun City lots are tighter than they look

Sun City removals cost more than the tree size alone suggests. Houses sit close together, lots are compact, and there is rarely room to drop anything, so almost everything is rigged down in pieces. A 40-foot tree that would be $900 on an open Hutto lot is often $1,200 to $1,500 here.

Sun City’s community association also has its own landscape standards sitting on top of the city ordinance, so there can be two approvals to clear rather than one. Check your covenants alongside the city rule.

The river corridor

Along the North and South San Gabriel the soil is deeper and better, and pecan, cedar elm and bald cypress grow larger here than almost anywhere else we work. Lovely trees, expensive removals, frequently crane work.

Flood scour is the thing to watch. High water undercuts banks and exposes root plates, so a riverside tree can be standing on considerably less than it was five years ago while looking entirely healthy in the canopy. Floodplain and riparian rules may also apply on top of the tree ordinance, and we check both.

Questions about removal in Georgetown

Do I need a permit to remove a tree in Georgetown TX?

Quite possibly yes. Georgetown runs a tree preservation ordinance with a heritage category, and heritage tree removals generally need city approval even for a homeowner, usually with mitigation attached. This is the strictest of the Williamson County suburbs, so check before booking anyone.

How much does tree removal cost in Georgetown TX?

Most Georgetown removals run $500 to $2,400. Tight Sun City lots push prices up because everything is rigged down rather than dropped. Large pecans along the San Gabriel often pass $3,000 where a crane is needed. Mitigation costs for approved heritage removals sit on top.

How long does the permit take?

Allow several weeks for a heritage tree application rather than days, and longer if the city asks for more information. That is why we start the paperwork when we quote rather than when you accept. Genuinely dead or hazardous trees follow a faster route, with documentation of the condition.

What is mitigation going to cost me?

It scales with the size of what comes down, since you are replacing lost canopy inches either by planting or by paying into the city fund. On a large heritage live oak it can be a meaningful sum. Ask the city for the figure before you commit to the removal, not after.

Does Sun City have its own rules as well?

Yes. The community association has landscape standards separate from the city ordinance, so a Sun City removal can need clearance from both. Check your covenants first. We will provide a written condition report with photographs if the association wants documentation before approving.

Across Georgetown we also do trimming, stump grinding and emergency callouts. Nearby: Round Rock, Leander and Hutto.
